Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been won on hardcourt

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his first championship for nearly 30 months with success over Corentin Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The athlete, a former world number one, has had a torrid year, managing just one win at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

The player's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serving in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the top ten and finally parting ways with long-term mentor his previous coach.

Presently collaborating with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently advanced in the last few weeks - culminating in a tightly fought three-set win over challenger Moutet.

This represents the player's initial championship after the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface since March of 2023.

The win also indicates the Russian has won 21 victories at twenty-one different competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a tournament with my children together, so to get a title is especially meaningful," said tennis professional the champion.

"This championship is in honour of my child Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my first daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament in the past months.

His retrieving play style and regular reactions on the playing surface had led commentators to doubt if his skill to compete at the top level was finished.

But the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, striving to advance forward and perform positively, supported by an enhanced serve.

He fought back from a deficit in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, winning 4 of the final five exchanges to go ahead.

The pair traded break points in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his first tour title, gained dominance to push for a final set.

Moutet saved 4 initial opportunities in a competitive third set before the champion won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Appropriately, he earned the win with a rally at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to control a shot after a lengthy match.
