Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
Lando Norris has outperformed his teammate at each of the previous five grands prix.
Lando Norris edged out fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the championship lead from Piastri by a single point after winning in Mexico City two weeks ago, topped the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Until that point, Piastri had been the leading McLaren during the running before sprint qualifying scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the championship fight, sitting with a 36-point deficit Norris, ended up in 17th place as his Red Bull team followed a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he rotated at corner four early in the session.
Tsunoda slid over the exit kerbs before rotating through the escape zone, and was blessed to escape with just a minor contact of the fence.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the very end of the session, turning around through the high-speed Mergulho turn approaching the last turn on to the pit straight.
Hamilton finished practice in P19, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were well clear of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's car third fastest, over half a second behind the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
